Easter Safety for Pets: How to Keep Your Pet Safe During the Holiday

Easter is a fun and festive holiday for many families, but it can also be a dangerous time for our furry friends. Here are some tips to keep in mind as you celebrate Easter with your pet.

First and foremost, keep all chocolate and candy out of reach. Chocolate contains theobromine, which is toxic to dogs and cats. Even small amounts can cause vomiting, diarrhea, and even death. If you suspect that your pet has ingested chocolate, contact us immediately or call the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center at (888) 426-4435.

Another potential hazard during Easter is the Easter lily. These beautiful flowers are highly toxic to cats and can cause kidney failure if ingested. Keep lilies and other toxic plants out of the reach of your pets, and consider using silk or artificial flowers as decorations instead.

Easter eggs can also pose a danger to pets. Hard-boiled eggs can cause an upset stomach if ingested in large quantities, and raw eggs can contain salmonella. Keep eggs out of reach and dispose of them properly.

Lastly, it's important to keep your pet's identification up-to-date. With all the commotion of the holiday, it's easy for pets to slip out of the house.
